The public relations office of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization quoted an official with the organization as saying that the two women died of smoke inhalation.
The fire started in a room on the third floor of al-Nasir Hotel that was accommodating about 170 Iranian pilgrims.
It was caused after a curtain close to a heater in the room caught fire.
The official said the pilgrims staying in the hotel were from Iran’s Markazi province.
Reports said over a hundred pilgrims suffered from smoke inhalation.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Iranians visit Najaf, which hosts the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS).
